What is an excise tax?
Excise tax is a type of indirect tax paid on the sale of specific items.
These products are taxable if they are imported into the UAE, manufactured there, or stockpiled there.
Products that are detrimental to individuals and the environment are subject to excise duty. The sales tax’s primary goal is to restrict consumption of certain specific commodities and to limit unhealthy practices.
In some cases, commodities are tagged physically to show that excise duty has already been paid to the government.
Which products are subject to excise tax?
• Carbonated Beverages: All carbonated beverages, with the exception of unflavored carbonated water. Concentrates, powders, gels, and extracts used in the manufacturing of aerated beverages are likewise subject to excise duty.

• Excise product movement outside of designated regions
• Excise reserves accumulated in the normal course of business.
• Sales of excise in the United Arab Emirates. Sales tax is the seller’s responsibility and is included in the total sales price of the sales tax item.
